With the headlines coming out about food waste in the U.S., Greener Bloomfield wants to put Bloomfield on the map for being a town that composts. We will be holding periodic composting workshops to add to our list of composting residents. The EPA wrote: “Wasted food is a growing problem in our modern society and an untapped opportunity. In 2014 alone, more than 38 million tons of food waste was generated, with only 5.1 percent diverted from landfills and incinerators for composting. EPA estimates that more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in our everyday trash, constituting 21.6 percent of discarded municipal solid waste.” (https://www.epa.gov/sustainable-management-food/sustainable-management-food-basics)
