Meeting 1/28: Green Home Tour

We’re back to our last-Thursday-of-the-month meeting schedule, and we have a great one. We’ll be touring a home that’s been remodeled “green”, nearly complete, and targeted for LEED certification.

Bloomfield Climate Vigil Dec. 12

This Saturday, December 12th is an international day of action for a strong climate treaty in Copenhagen, Denmark to stave off disastrous climate change. In Bloomfield, there will be a vigil outside the main post office on Montgomery St. on Sat., Dec. 12th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. It is being organized by the Essex County Greens, and all interested individuals and organizations are invited to join.

Bloomfield Applies for Sustainable Jersey Certification

Bloomfield Township is one of only 47 communities in New Jersey to complete its application for Sustainable Jersey certification. The application, submitted by Greener Bloomfield coordinator John Palomaki on behalf of the Township, is currently being reviewed by Sustainable Jersey.

Water Conservation Ordinance Passes

On September 8, 2009, the Bloomfield Township Council unanimously adopted a new Water Conservation Ordinance. The ordinance essentially asks residents and businesses to take a few simple common-sense steps to conserve water.

Sustainability Initiatives at 8/10 Council Meeting

Speak up for sustainability! At Monday’s Council meeting (August 10, 7:30pm, Town Hall), the Bloomfield Township Council will be voting on 3 resolutions and 2 ordinances related to sustainability proposed by Greener Bloomfield, and 1 resolution from the Bloomfield Recycling Committee, for Sustainable Jersey actions: Project Porchlight, Anti-Idling (resolution and ordinance), Sustainable Land Use Pledge, Grass Cut It and Leave It, and Water Conservation.

ABC News has a prime-time feature June 2 at 9pm: “‘Earth 2100′: the Final Century of Civilization?” Their tag line seems a little sensationalist, “Planet at Risk: Experts Warn Population Growth, Resource Depletion, Climate Change Could Bring Catastrophe in Next Century”. The May 22 New York Times Real Estate section features an article on Bloomfield as a town that is “charming in an old-fashioned kind of way” with “a great commute” and “lower prices” than its neighboring towns.
