Green Film Series Presents “The Disappearing Male” and “Big River”

The Montclair Environmental Affairs office and Community Green present another eye-opening environmental double feature from the Montclair Green Film Series, “The Disappearing Male” and “Big River”, hosted at the Public Library Main Branch, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, on Thursday, February 18th at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Meeting 1/28: Green Home Tour

We’re back to our last-Thursday-of-the-month meeting schedule, and we have a great one. We’ll be touring a home that’s been remodeled “green”, nearly complete, and targeted for LEED certification.

Montclair Green Film Series Jan 21: ‘Story of Stuff’ and ‘Trashed’

Montclair’s Environmental Affairs office and Community Green present the first offering of 2010’s monthly Green Film Series: a double-feature examining a fundamental element of modern American culture – the creation and disposal of what we call “waste.”

The screening will be hosted at the Montclair Public Library’s Main Branch, 50 South Fullerton Avenue tonight, Thursday, January 21st at 6:30 p.m. All events at the Library are free. The Green Film Series continues throughout 2010, on the third Thursday of each month. This year’s first film, “The Story of Stuff”

Great West Essex Toy Swap Feb. 21

The Great West Essex Toy Swap on Sunday, February 21, is an opportunity to bring your old toys to exchange for different toys your kids will love.

Bloomfield Climate Vigil Dec. 12

This Saturday, December 12th is an international day of action for a strong climate treaty in Copenhagen, Denmark to stave off disastrous climate change. In Bloomfield, there will be a vigil outside the main post office on Montgomery St. on Sat., Dec. 12th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. It is being organized by the Essex County Greens, and all interested individuals and organizations are invited to join.

Celebrate at Dec. 3 Meeting!

Instead of our usual last-Thursday-of-the-month Greener Bloomfield meetings, which would fall on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, we’re going to combine them into one “Celebrate!” meeting on Thursday, December 3, 7:30 pm, at the Bloomfield Civic Center. (Repeat: NO MEETING NOVEMBER 26 OR DECEMBER 24!)

Unlimited: Renewable Energy Film & Discussion

This Thursday, Oct. 29, 7:00 pm at the Civic Center, Greener Bloomfield is hosting a presentation of the new film Unlimited: Renewable Energy in the 21st Century, followed by a discussion with the author, local filmmaker Daniel Califf-Glick. The film features a group of passionate children calling for adults to take action and address global warming.

At 1 pm on Saturday, October 24, everyone is invited to Bloomfied College to join in a global day of climate action. The event is organized by the College’s student group, the BC Green Hearts Movement, as part of a 350.org initiative.

Volunteers Needed for Harvest Fest

Bloomfield Harvest Fest is coming this Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Greener Bloomfield needs volunteers to work our table for 2 hour (or more shifts) to talk to people about our activities.

Council Vote on Township Water Conservation Ordinance

loomfield Township Council members will be voting on a Water Conservation Ordinance at tonight’s 7:30 p.m. meeting. With fresh water as a limited resource, the ordinance sets standards oflawn watering no more than two days per week between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. (when water is less likely to evaporate), and also sets protocols for water/drought emergencies.

Anti-Idling at School Board, Township Council

At tonight’s 7:30 p.m. Bloomfield Township Council meeting, the Council will have a hearing and vote on an Anti-Idling Ordinance. The ordinance, which is separate from the Anti-Idling resolution passed in August, essentially copies state anti-idling codes and establishes local enforcement policies and fines. In addition, a number of Anti-Idling initiatives will be presented for adoption at the Bloomfield Board of Education meeting, which starts at 7:00 p.m. All are encouraged to attend one or both of these meetings to express support for these initiatives.

CHANGE A LIGHT! PROJECT PORCHLIGHT DAY!

Today (Saturday, Aug. 15) is Project Porchlight Day in Bloomfield! Volunteers will be meeting at 10:00 a.m. at Watchung Presbyterian Church (375 Watchung Ave.) to receive instructions, t-shirts, maps, and light bulbs. They’ll then fan out to neighborhoods in Bloomfield to do two things: (1) give each household one free energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulb, and (2) ask residents to sign a simple pledge to change a light to a more energy efficient one.
